On Sunday July 31st, at Morris Chapel in Kernersville, I had the absolute pleasure to speak about Liberia and the high school. This was my last scheduled talk for the summer so it was a little bitter sweet…but I knew it was going to top them all. What made this talk different was that I was given a whole service, about 45 minutes, to get my point across! It was called the 5thSunday service and Morris Chapel does them only when a month has five Sundays (That only occurs twice a year).
I have to give a huge shout out to Megan Smoot who got me the gig to speak at Morris Chapel. She first brought up the idea on my bike ride at Josh’s house and did an unbelievable job hyping the service up and getting people there! That wasn’t all the help I had. A huge thanks has to go to Josh and Brooke Robertson and TJ Smoot (Megan’s husband) as well, they all had a huge hand in planning the service and it was blessing to put all our heads together to make what was a unforgettable service! Josh, TJ, and myself started out the service with a two minute drum circle. This quickly got people’s attention and was probably my favorite part of the service! After that, Josh welcomed everybody and introduced me to speak. As I have mentioned before Josh also went to Liberia, he told a few stories from his trip and how that eventually sparked my trip to Liberia! It is crazy to think that if Josh would have never gone then none of this would have happened! Then I got up on stage and did my thing!
Since I had more time than usual I was able to put on a message with my talk this time! I wanted to people know that there is this incredible potential in ALL of us to change the world, all we have to do is tap into it. It is important to have faith in God but it is just as important if not more to realize that God has great faith in ALL of us and He has given us the tools to restore this fallen world! I also wanted people to know what a gift all that we have is, and to appreciate it because is such a gift. We should give our excess and extend it to others realizing that overflow, and we have a TON of it, is somebody else’s necessity! After my talk Alan Capps came up and did a very special presentation which I will speak more about in a second. I then closed and we did handprints and chatted with people! It was an incredible service and couldn’t have gone any better…it flew by! I appreciated tremendously everyone that came out but it meant a lot that my boss, from my job at UNCG, showed up! I invited her on a whim and didn’t really think much of it so it was really awesome that she showed up in support!
So, about that special presentation Alan Capps did! Alan is a artist like myself and I meet him in high school when he came to one our Christian club meetings one day! Alan does these awesome paintings where he is painting for about 5 minutes and you have no clue what he painting. It just looks like a bunch of white and grey blobs. Then once he is done he turns the painting upside down and it is a picture of Jesus with the crown of thorns. It is absolutely thrilling and bone chilling to watch him do this and if you ever get a chance you will be blessed! Alan blessed us and did one of these paintings at the 5th Sunday service. What blew me away the most was that Alan usual charges a hefty price to have this done, and rightfully so, but he has graciously donated the painting to be auctioned off on my blog with all the proceeds going towards the high school!
There is a picture of the painting below and if you would like to bid, please email me at sabunch@uncg.edu with your price. We ask that the minimum bid be $300. The auction will last until August 27th. If no one bids by then we will extend the deadline! Alan is a wonderful artist! Click here to check out his website. There are videos of him doing the painting! Thank you so much Alan, the kids and I appreciate it more than you know so let’s get bidding!
